Mitchell Hall was constructed in 1925-1926 and is the first of three auditoriums in Oklahoma designed by the respected firm of Layton & Smith (Jewell Hicks, architect). The auditorium was dedicated on June 29, 1926 and was named for then President, John C. Mitchell.
The main entrance faces west. A large two-story projection to the building contains five double-door entrances. Over the years, upgrades and additions have been made to the building to better accommodate. Central heat and air was added in 1986, and cushioned theater seating, carpeting, and upgrades to the lighting and sound have all added to the comfort of theater-goers.
Plays and musicals are performed throughout the year, with special StrawHat Musical Theater operating during the summer months. The Broadway Tonight program hosts national tours of Broadway musicals. The Annual Summer Icre Cream and Watermelon Band Festival is a popular event on the building grounds each summer.
The ticket office is open from 10am to 5pm Monday thru Friday (405-974-3375 or 405-974-2513), and one hour before performances. Discounts are offered for Seniors, Students, UCO students, UCO faculty and staff, and groups.
Evening and Broadway Tonight performances begin at 7:30pm, with matinees at 2pm.
