This sundial sits amid the beautiful gardens of Buxton Park just to the north of Simpson College. There is a dedication plaque at the base which reads:
“In honor of Wm. Buxton, Jr. and Anna McLaughlin Buxton, parents of Ruth Buxton Sayre, Martha Buxton Scott, and Wm. Buxton III. This Sundial is dedicated in loving memory by their Sayre, Scott, and Buxton grandsons.” William Buxton Sr. was the benefactor of this park.
