This Museum Building built in 1839 was first used as a seminary; an armory during the Civil War, a school for "Negro" children from 1873-1924, later a gas station, a restaurant and gift shop.
It was purchased in 1975 by Parke Co. Historical Society
It is located on the south side of Ohio Street, 2 blocks east of the intersection of US 41 & US 36.
My great-grandfather moved from County Cork, Ireland to the house diagonally across the street from this Marker in 1869.
