Samut Songkram is a small city, and capital of the province of the same name, on the coast of the Bay of Bangkok, and ~70kms to the south west of Bangkok.

The bus station for this city is a semi-formal affair. It consists of a paved parking area, with an adjacent set of buildings where tickets, food, drink and seats for waiting are located, however, this is not a dedicated bus station building. It is simply a set of 'normal' buildings and a few open air restaurants. There is a small office selling bus tickets.

The station is near the centre of the city, on a major road. Not very large, space for maybe a dozen or fewer large buses. There are the usual assortment of tuk tuks, and motor bikes ready to whisk disembarking passengers away around the town.

There was little signage, and a complete dearth of English. The locals were surprised to see a foreign visitor wander in and take snaps of their station. The station is within walking distance of the town train station.

ADVISORY: One in ten stray dogs in Thailand have rabies. I mention this as I was attacked while visiting this station. There were stray dogs hanging around the restaurants. When I walked past several attacked. Normally, it is only at night that these would be aggressive, but compelled by my foreign appearance (and smell), these did not wait for nightfall. They tend not to attack locals, who they are comfortable with. Fortunately, these dogs are easily frightened if one shouts, jumps up and down, and waves a stick (which I carry in my backpack). Just make lots of noise and throw things around and 99% of the time these dogs will retreat. Take care.
