The Lost Forest is a remnant of an large Ice Age forest. This remnant stand of Ponderosa Pine is located 40 miles from the nearest present day Ponderosa Forest. The forest survives on less rainfall than Ponderosa Pine typically needs due to the unique geologic conditions of the area.
