Wat Phra Borommathat is a Buddhist wat in southern Thailand, located on the outskirts of the small town of Chaiya, ~50kms north of the provincial capital of the Surat Thani province, the City of Surat Thani. Inside the Wat is a cloister, and inside the cloister is an ancient chedi—a remnant of the once Srivijaya empire, which a millenium ago dominated this region. This Chedi houses a number of Buddhist relics. To enter this cloister, one must first remove one's shoes, and making a small donation is the thing to do.

Along the walls of the cloister are Buddha images, and at each of the four corners is a bell. These four bells are larger than the 'standard' (from what I have seen) wat bell, and are unadorned. They are there to be rung by visitors (certainly after the donation is made). The somewhat neglected and worn appearance of the bells, their simple design, and their lack of ornamentation lead me to infer that they are of some posterity themselves, perhaps significant in themselves, however, I could be wrong, on this.

There are several other waymarks in the immediate area, including the provincial museum. The Chedi and cloister are impressive and attractive, certainly worth a visit, if you find yourself in southern Thailand with time to spare.
