Pathum Thani and Nakhon Nayok are two of the outer provinces of the Bangkok area of central Thailand. Pathum Thani is a largely urban (the burbs) area, immediately north of Bangkok, essentially part of the sprawl of greater Bangkok, while Nakhon Nayok, a little further out, is a quieter area of farms and light industry. The main highway connecting these two provinces is Highway 305. Along this stretch of the busy road are a few small buildings, some residential, but largely open farm land.
There is a sign welcoming the traveller to both provinces, I was travelling back into Bangkok from Nakhon, thus the default sign is Pathum Thani (not easy to change direction on this road). Unfortunately, this was not the best illuminated. This border is open, with no restrictions on travel.
