This red, white, and blue barn quilt offers a deeper meaning. Four white stars shoot out from a square interior, the trio of patriotic colors looking right at home against this beautiful old red barn. What the viewer can’t see easily from the road are the tiny handwritten notes on the design. The white center square expresses the belief “To God Be the Glory” while each of the stars hold the names of countries -- United States, Germany, Viet Nam, and Afghanistan. Family, Freedom and Farm are among the words on the edge, the ideals that this family holds dear. The barn is on the east side of 13th Avenue, SE, and the quilt shows up nicely at the end of the driveway. This barn quilt is #19 on the Sioux County list.
Your Visit: I didn't even see the words painted on this barn quilt until I got home and enlarged the photo. What a surprise!
