Daniel is a small cluster of houses and a few commercial enterprises catering primarily to the locals. It has long, cold, dry winters and short warm summers. These conditions produced excellent pelts from fur bearing animals. Daniel, centered more or less in this rich trapping area, was the locale where men of the frontier met in large groups to experience a taste of "civilization", trade for their furs, and let off steam.
