The clock tower stands atop a police station near the centre of Phuket city. The building was constructed in the early 1900s, when Phuket was a small tin mining town. The clock is visible a fair distance along the intersection. Originally, when there were few other multi-story buildings in the town, this must have been quite the landmark. The clock seems to be in operation.
When I visited in March 2011 the Police station was abandoned, however, I am given to understand that it is to be refurbished by the city government.
