This benchmark is located along U.S. Hwy. 20 about 9 miles east of Brothers, Oregon. The cap is located about 60 feet northeast of the highway centerline. The cap was cemented into a rock outcrop by the Oregon Highway Department in 1927 and was marked 40, elevation of 4438.

ABOUT 9.1 MILES SOUTHEAST ALONG THE CENTRAL OREGON HIGHWAY FROM BROTHERS, DESCHUTES COUNTY, 60 FEET NORTH OF THE HIGHWAY, AT A DETACHED LAVA POINT NEAR A DRAW, UNDER A LOW RIMROCK, AND IN A BOULDER. AN OREGON STATE HIGHWAY DEPARTMENT STANDARD DISK STAMPED 4438 40 1927.
