The giant bike wasn’t specifically built to advertise the tenders, but does a good job of doing it.
The sculpture was commissioned for a conference on the environment in 1995 and so seems to be very appropriately sited. Not only are the tenders nearby, but there is Deansgate rail station, and across the road the Deansgate – Castlefield Metrolink light rail station.
The sculptor was George Wyllie.
