John Breaux was a simple man, well known across east Boulder County for his quirky kindness, riding his bicycle, and picking up trash. On Jan. 30, 2009 he was picking up litter alongside a busy road when he was struck and killed by a car.
Locals raised close to $35,000 for the memorial fund by collecting donations at businesses around Louisville. More than half of the money went to the memorial, while some went to Breaux's funeral and burial costs.
The artist molded parts of the sculpture on personal belongings found with Breaux when he was struck, including his watch, necklace chain and his bike.
Recently, the owner of the local pub next to the statue placed a web-cam on his building so that people could check up on John from time to time. (
