At the Tarukenga Rest Area, a roadside rest area approaching Rotorua, there is a large Welcome and Information panel which tells you that You Are Here, on SH5 near Rotorua.

The large information panel describes some of the local Maori history around Rotorua and has a map showing several carved pou (posts) along SH5. The map also shows You Are Here, and the positions of the posts that are linked to this sign. The posts form a contemporary idea of the palisades of a traditional Maori Village and you can discover them as you proceed towards Rotorua city.
