The building dates back to the 14th century and was once the home of a noble Scottish family, the Bellendens. The third baron Bellenden, John, lived at Westmill at the “Old House” until his death in 1741.
In 1800 the house became an inn, taking its name from the crest of the local squire, Greg. The landlord was a Mr Jackson, whose ancestors ran the inn for nearly 150 years.
The artist of the present sign is believed to be Mike Maidment.
