Land around this spring is privately owned, but it's easily accessed from the Santa Fe River. July Spring is across the river from Devil’s Eye and reportedly now owned by one of the owners of Ginnie Springs Resort.

Most of the pool is covered with exotic aquatic vegetation, making it hard to swim in the pool except at the spring fissure. Spring water issues from a 40-foot long limestone fissure, approximately 8 feet deep. Discharge measured November 4, 1997 was 117 ft3/s making this a 1st magnitude spring.

In springtime, the darker waters of the Santa Fe River can flood over the springs.

I was introduced to this spring in the early 1970’s while going to college in Gainesville. At that time we could drive to the spring and there was no exotic aquatic vegetation. The pool was a delight to swim in, with a cable and pulley to “fly” out of the trees and into the spring. Locals would bring their families down in the hot summer afternoons. In July and August, watermelon pickers would cool off in the water after a hot day picking watermelons. They always brought watermelons to share. Ahhh, the good ole days.
