The Angel is a traditional name for pubs. This modern pub though, doesn't have that sort of pedigree.

There is clearly a religious reference in the use of the name "The Angel" and this would date back to medieval times.

It is known that there was a monastery in this area. Indeed not far up the road are the monastery fish ponds. I have been able to find no reference to an older pub called The Angel locally, but it would be reasonable to believe that there was one in this area at some time in the past. Old maps reveal no pub on the site of the modern one during the 1800's.
