On the first peak of Ponta do São Lourenço, east of Caniçal is a Portuguese Geodetic marker. The 360 degree view from this point is wonderful.

The hike on Ponta do São Lourenço is perhaps the most popular hike on Madeira. As you start the hike you may notice a trig point on the top of the first peak. Hike up along the old stone wall at the edge of the park area and scramble up to the trig point. The view is spectacular in all directions: the north coast cliffs, the peaks, the serra, Caniçal, Ponta do São Lourenço out to the light house, the nearby cliffs and sea stacks and an arch in the island directly below.

I don't have a thing about Portugal Geodetic Markers but they exist in the places where I go: mountain peaks, isolated headlands, seaside cliffs etc, the scenis viewpints in Portugal.
