A very popular crossing sign situated on the highway between National Park Ski Village and Whakapapa Skifield on Mt Ruapehu. In an area known to have wild kiwis crossing the highway, there might also be a stray Skiwi (or Kiwi on skis) as well!

This Kiwi sign has been cleverly adapted to cater for our popular NZ feathered friend, the Kiwi, and also the many wandering stray skiers who frequent the area, NZers or "Kiwis" as we are known...on Skis, hence the name Skiwi.....an NZ skier.
Needless to say, this is a much photographed sign, every skier wants to stop and get their camera out for this one!
The area around the base of the Bruce Road - National Park is a well known area for wild Kiwis and there are several crossing signs on the Round the Mountain route to warm motorists to take great care of our precious native birds.
