The pub's name comes from the society of the Oddfellows which was established in 1810. It is a society of friendship which protects and cares for its members and is a non-profit organisation.

On the pub sign the coat of arms shows the motto 'Amicitia Amor Et Veritas' which means 'Friendship Love and Truth'. The different symbols represent different meanings with the hourglass depicting time, the beehive work and thrift, the crossed keys knowledge and security and the lamb and flag sacrifice and innocence.

The building dates to the 17th and 18th centuries and was Grade II Listed on 3rd February 1967. It has a timber frame with whitewashed brick nogging and a clay tile roof.
