THE FIRST STEAM RAILROAD
West of the Allegheny Mountains.
NORTHERN CROSS
had its beginning on the East
bank of the Illinois River at
MEREDOSIA
The first run was made to its eastern
Terminus at Morgan City, NOV. 8, 1838.
A distance of twelve miles.
