The Louisa County Confederate Memorial was dedicated on August 17, 1905 along with the current county courthouse. On the occasion of the dedication, a Confederate reunion was held and the veterans were honored before an estimated in excess of 10,000. It was and still is the largest public gathering ever assembled on the courthouse grounds. (Reference city website - link below)
The Memorial is inscribed with the words:
IN MEMORY OF THE COURAGE, PATRIOTISM AND DEVOTIONS OF THE CONFEDERATE SOLDIERS OF LOUISA COUNTY. 1861 - 1865.
