The Mary J. Eddy house was used as a Union regimental hospital. The surrounding area served served as a recruiting, rendezvous, and training site called Camp Mather/Camp Logan. The site is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and was submitted as part of the Multiple Property listing entitled "Caught in the Middle; The Civil War on the Lower Ohio River," within the context of "Illinois Goes to War; Recruiting, Organizing and Mobilizing 1861-65."
