Located just a few miles south of the North Dakota border, Hecla has a population of 295, as of July 2009; This shows a drop in population of about 6% from the 2000 census.
This Brown County community was settled by German, English, Norwegian, Irish, and Polish immigrants and was incorporated on June 24, 1890.
