The city of Ayutthaya is a former capital of Siam (Thailand). Between 1350-1762 it was one of the larger cities in the world, attaining an estimated population of one million, before being destroyed by the Burmese. It is centred on an island at the junction of three rivers: Chao Phraya, Lopburi and Pa Sak.

The modern city is important as a cultural centre, a tourist destination, and for its Buddhist history. The city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The major route connecting it to the mainland is an arch bridge, on the south east side of the island.

The distance across the river is approximately 100m, while the total length of the bridge, including entry/exit ramps is close to 500m. The crossing is in constant use, busy night and day. Near the eastern entry ramp is the Ayutthaya train station.

The waymark was made on the eastern entry ramp. Apart from the sign (in the gallery), I could not see a plaque.
