In Homer, on the feature that juts out into Kachemak Bay called Homer Spit, is a row of commercial operations on a pier on the southwest side. One of these is the Boardwalk Fish and Chips restaurant.

This place is a typical 'fish and chips' place in appearance. The decor is basic, with a marine theme. You place your order at the counter inside, then the food is brought out to your table when it is ready.

The menu items are written in chalk on a board. There are many selections available, including 'non-seafood' salads, chicken, hamburger and corn dog meals. Of the seafood items, you have a wide selection. Halibut fish and chips is one very popular item. Our group referred to it as 'halibut on a stick.' Chunks of juicy, tasty halibut are on a wooden skewer, resting on a bed of crispy fries in a paper container. Other fish on the menu, in various forms, include cod, rockfish, salmon, and shrimp.

You know the halibut is fresh, since as stated by the welcome sign that Homer is the "Halibut Fishing Capital of the World," and the Halibut Fishing Derby was in its final days while we were there. As we were there after Labor Day, the crowds were gone, and many of the other establishments were closed for the season, already. But, I understand that in the summer, the place is packed with people.

Unfortunately, their web site is bare of specific information, like hours or a menu. Perhaps in 2011, they will update it. The hours are posted as "11 am to ? pm," so I guess they'll close when "they feel like it." As Homer tourist season is seasonal, I suspect that they are not open all year, but I didn't see any reference to when they close down.
