It is probable that the use of the name 'Horseshoe' in a pub name is quite straight-forward.

In days gone by pubs would no have had signs as we now know them, but maybe a branch,a broom, a vine, or similar.

A horseshoe is a symbol of good luck. Three horseshoes three times the luck. They should always be pointing up so that the luck doesn't fall out. They have also been used to ward off witches.
