It is believed these cut marks which are about 6 inches in diameter were cut into granite boulders around Roos Tor about 1847.
There are thirteen stones around the tor, each inscribed with a divided circle.
These are not all that conspicuous, so Duke of Bedford had granite pillars some four or five feet high erected around the tor beside each of these natural rock markers. The pillars bear the letter ‘B’ and date from about 1880.

Roos Tor is a tor on North Dartmoor near the village of Peter Tavy, the tor is on the edge of the Merrivale Military Firing Range and has a flag pole on its summit, access is allowed at all times to the tor, walkers must not cross the range poles which are well to the north of the tor, when the warning flag is flying.
Type of survey mark: Inscribed Stone.

What indicators are near the mark to help people identify where it is located?:
Next to Stand Stone.

What property is this mark defining?:
The reason for the stones and the markers was to protect Roos Tor from predatory granite workers (stone cutters) that were very active in this area in the 1800's, the land belonged to the Duke of Bedford.
