A very impressive stone cross in the Market Place, Hoddesdon.

The memorial is in the form of a tall stone cross of
octagonal section. The cross is mounted on an octagonal plinth with inscribed
slate tablets, picked out in gold lettering, attached. The whole stands on a
wide octagonal base with inscribed stone scrolls on the edges. The whole
memorial is surrounded by iron railings and stands in the centre of the market
square.
The main inscription reads

IN THE GREAT WAR
1914 – 1919
THE SECOND WORLD WAR

One of the stone scrolls bears the emblem of the British
Legion and the inscription
