In Monroe, on the Evergreen State Fairgrounds, there is the Western Heritage Center Interactive Museum, which has tractors, agricultural equipment, washing machines, milking machines, lumber jack tools, and many other things. It also has three train layouts in two scales (thus the selection in the field, below that the scale used is not in the selections given).

Two of these layouts are modest table layouts, both HO scale. One has two-tier loops with a mountain range in the middle. The other table has a loop surrounding a figure eight layout, and town buildings sprinkled about.

The third layout is a G scale loop that runs along the perimeter of the exhibit space above head height. This runs constantly, and you catch glimpses of it as it travels above you as you look at the other artifacts. At this level, other railroad cars and locomotives of various scales can be seen, and railroad items such as posters can be seen around, as well.

The Western Heritage Center Interactive Museum is open all year as " ... a hands on, state of the art, interactive museum of mining, logging, agriculture, wildlife and transportation in Northwestern Washington." The web site states that they will be expanding their exhibit on railroads to include a discussion on steam and diesel. Good luck in finding the space - the museum is already pretty full! The fairgrounds are located along U.S. Route 2. A donation is requested.
