This statue of Christopher Columbus was dedicated by the people of the city of Genoa, Italy and artist Edoardo Alfieri to the people of Columbus, Ohio in 1955. The dedication was based on the establishment of Genoa and Columbus as sister cities and the promotion of cultural and commercial ties.

"A standing portrait of Columbus, facing south. In his proper right hand he holds a rolled document. His proper left hand is placed on his chest. He is wearing a cloak over a gathered garment. His proper right foot is forward."
