In Monroe, at the Evergreen State Fair Grounds, is the Western Heritage Center Interactive Museum, which has a waterwheel display on the side of the building. This waterwheel has water running over the top which causes the wheel to spin.
The wheel is about 15 feet in diameter, and is an overshoot type wheel, where the water drops onto the wheel from above.
One article found online stated that the wheel powered some computers inside the museum. This may be so, but, though I did not trace the source of the water, I suspect that, since not far behind the building is a highway, that the water is pumped to that height. So, I would not say that they are saving any energy, here.
The Western Heritage Center Interactive Museum is a museum that has collections of items associated with agricultural and forestry life, including tractors, washing machines, chain saws, sewing machines, milking machines, and corn huskers. During the Evergreen State Fair, the collection is free for attendees. The museum is open to the public other times as well. See the web site for details.
