The Yavapai Museum is a small one, located at the Yavapai Ovservation Station, one mile east of Market Plaza. There are numerous displays and exhibits as well as photographs and 3-D models, giving information on the geology of the Grand Canyon and surrounding area.
Along the window overlooking the canyon there are several interactive exhibits which allow you a better description of what you are looking at through the window. The museum window is about 25 feet wide and slightly angled, providing a panoramic view of the geological features of the canyon below.
The original building that the museum is located in was dedicated in 1928 and designed by architect Herbert C. Maier. (source: website listed below)
Parking is plentiful by the overlook, but you can also take the free shuttle offered by the Grand Canyon. The Blue Shuttle stops here at Yavapai Point.
Summer hours are daily 8 a.m. - 8 p.m.
Oct. 1-31, hours are 8 a.m. - 7 p.m.
Beginning Nov. 1: 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
