Kotnov Castle in Tabor, CZ - Castles on Waymarking.com

Kotnov is a national cultural monument in the Czech Republic. Located in the South Bohemia region, in Tabor, Kotnov is actually the ruin of a Gothic castle, probably originating from the 13th century. Kotnov was founded by Premysl Otakar II and had four round and one square tower with fortification walls and moats. In the 16th century, the castle burned. Since that time it was used only for commercial purposes. At the beginning of the 17th century was part of the castle rebuilt into a brewery, which in later years grew even further. The oldest surviving parts of the present time is Kotnovská tower, whose gallery is open to the public and it can be seen throughout the town of Tabor. Other surviving parts of which are paid Kotnov offers is the city gate - called Bechynská, which has been preserved in almost original condition. Its interior is available permanent exhibition - Life and work of medieval society, which includes archaeological findings, and the restored objects. Kotnov is open to the public from May to September.
