Pet Cemetery at Weir River Farm - Hingham, MA - Pet Cemeteries on Waymarking.com

In the woodsy part of the Weir River Farm Reservation, one of over 100 properties owned by the Trustees of Reservation, there is an area set aside for the burial of cats and dogs. There are approximately a dozen markers.

The cemetery has graves and plaques from the early 1900s to almost present day. Weir Farm was given to the Trustees in 1999, so graves date back to when the property was a country estate. There is no information on the Trustees of Reservation's web site concerning the plot.

There were several bronze plaques mounted on a rock for cats. On top of the rock was a reddish sculpture of a cat curled up in sleep. Names such as Grimm, O'Malley, and Mishu are embossed on the plaques with the important dates and some inscriptions. Several older markers are for dogs. One in particular, "Scrap", had poetic text about him.

The plot is in a tangle of trails that goes through some managed woods. The easiest way is to approach from Turkey Hill Road. Near the base of the hill where the parking lot is located there is a trail that crosses the road. Go north (right when your back is to the parking lot). You will cross what appears to be a back yard to a house (the map shows it as a trail). Continue on a short while to the plot on the right of the trail. The Weir River Farm parking lot is on Turkey Hill Lane, which is off Everett Street, off MA Route 228.
