The city of Paso Robles is more formally named El Paso de Robles (The Pass of Oaks). The city seal is a magnificent California live oak, over the date 1889, the city's founding. The city flag features a simplified silhouette of the oak, with the 1889 date and the name El Paso de Robles. The background is half green and half dark gold, with the oak being green against the gold "sky".
There doesn't seem to be any information on why these two colors specifically were chosen to symbolize Paso Robles. It seems like they may represent the alternating green and gold of the hills surrounding Paso Robles.
