Many cities across the nation created their own local versions of the 1893 World Exhibition and Fair of Chicago, all dubbed White City. They were all painted white and covered head to toe in electric light bulbs, which would have been quite a sight in that era! Colorado's 'White City' opened May 30, 1908 to great fanfare. During the Depression, the park almost closed. It was bought and renovated by a Russian immigrant, Benjamin Krasner and renamed Lakeside Amusement Park. The Staride fell into disrepair, but the skeleton has been saved as it is one of a few remaining artifacts from the original 1908 White City.
