The plaque reads: "While the site of this building was subdivided in 1911 and owned by Charles Edward Hope in 1914, this landmark was likely built during the First World War. Its false front facade is typical of the period, and it raised front parapet is a unique decorative feature. It was purchadd in 1929 by brothers John and James Simpson and operatedc as the Simspins Brothers store until 1951. The building was restored in 2006 when later additions were removed."
