House built in 1935 to serve as the home for the school superintendent for the New Deal Matanuska Colony project in Alaska. The Matanuska Colony project was a relocation project where 202 families from Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan were relocated to Alaska for a new start during the Great Depression. The families had about 500 children and a new school was built to serve the community.
