In the Community park at the corner of William and Bell Streets.
- The community was named for the 3rd Viscount Palmerston.

A station was built on the main line of the Wellington,Grey and Bruce Railway in 1871 provided the nucleus around which Palmerston was developed. Within three years, lines were in operation to Southampton and Listowel, and the population of this burgeoning railway town had reached 1400.
Palmerston never did receive the status of 'Village' but was named a 'Town' from the offset.
