This is a huge stone edifice, very similar in form and function to at least 5 other churches within a mile from here. The church is a hodgepodge of other churches that consolidated over the years and as early as the 90s.

The Columbia United Methodist Church was formed by the consolidation of three United Methodist Churches at Fifth and Walnut Streets in 1992. First United Methodist Church at Second and Cherry Streets, the earliest Church, began in 1803; Salome United Brethren began in 1860; Cookman United Methodist at Sixth and Chestnut began in 1876.
