The mausoleum was built for George Cathrow, a brewer from Hoddesden. The remains of George (d 1842) and his wife Elizabeth (d 1820) are deposited in the vault beneath the canopied tomb.
The mausoleum is in the form of a neo-classical temple. The temple shelters a pie shaped sarcophagus standing on lions feet. The sarcophagus bears the inscription “The family vault of George Cathrow Esq of Hoddesdon.” The temple is surmounted by a draped urn. Crossed branches are carved on the four pediments of the roof.
