The Wallowa Post Office was established in 1873 and was the first post office in what would become Wallowa County. Today the community has a population of about 800 and is a gateway to the Eagle Cap Wilderness. The city hall occupies space in an old brick building in the downtown area, which is occuied by Community Bank.
