For the past 9 years Patti Flores and her husband, Charlie, have been volunteers at Frontera Audubon, a non-profit organization that is preserving a 15-acre plot of pristine land that shows the natural beauty of South Texas to visitors from near and far.
Patti greeted those who came to visit as they walked through the doors of the visitor center. She also worked in the office and handled the sale of souvenirs. She was there during the planning and development of new projects, sometimes illustrating the finished project with her own paintings, before the project went to the committee for review. Patti supplied coffee and baked cookies for visitors. She lined up meals for special events and committee meetings. She even hand printed souvenir T-shirts.
Patti died on February 9, 2010. Even during her 6-year struggle with cancer, she continued coming to the visitor center to help out.
On May 10, 2010, friends and family met at Frontera Audubon to dedicate this bench in honor and memory of Patti Flores. The bench is made from recycled wood by local craftsman Agustin Escanuela.
