One "Claim to Fame" of Gimli, occurred on July 23, 1983, when an Air Canada Boeing 767 run out of fuel on a flight from Montreal to Edmonton and made an emergency unpowered landing on a decommissioned runway at Gimli Industrial Park Airport.
