The school on which this bell rested was located about 1 1/2 blocks south of the bell's location. The two beams that say boys and girls came from above the entrances where the boys and the girls were required to enter the school.

The building itself was built in 1920 and closed in 1967. The towns people didn't know what to do with the building but they didn't want it around for vandals to wreck. So, they sold it to a developer for $1.00 with the stipulation that he tear it down. Needless to say, he renigged on the deal and the town was stuck with the building. And, of course vandals started to cause problems and the building was finally torn down.

This bell memorial was completed in 1985 and dedicated on July 2, 1985. It sets on a lot that also has a very nice playground for children.

A small town in Spink County, South Dakota, Brentford has a population of 56 as of the July 2008 census. This shows a 14% decrease from the 2000 census.
