Moel Arthur, Clwyd, Wales, UK - Mountain Summits on Waymarking.com

Moel Arthur is a very prominent hill within the Clwydian Range and is situated to the south of Penycloddiau. At the summit are the remains of a small circular iron age hillfort. The ramparts are difficult to locate on the Western side, but much more obvious to the north.The hillfort is about 2 hectares in size. It has an entrance way to the north east. There is also what is thought to be a Bronze Age burial mound in the middle of the hillfort and also evidence of quarrying on the south side of the hill. It is also reputed to have been quarried during the 'Cilcain Gold Rush', by optimistic gold miners. It is one of several Iron age Hill forts in the region, others nearby include; Penycloddiau, Moel-y-Gaer and Foel Fenlli. The Clwydian Range is situated in north east Wales and runs from Llandegla in the south to Prestatyn in the north. These hills are formed from an upstanding block of Silurian era sandstones, siltstones and mudstone. The highest point of the range is the nearby Moel Famau and the entire range is designated as an area of outstanding natural beauty.
