Weaubleau history:
History Source: passed down through family, and from Weaubleau history book compiled during the bicentennial by members of the community.
Weaubleau apparently got its name from the Osage Indians, who named it "Wabelo" the indian name for crooked stream. Then, years later, the French changed it to its current spelling and pronunciation. It is actually an Indian name with a French spelling. It is widely believed that the French spelled it this way to mean Weau (water) bleau (blue) water - blue. Weaubleau is the only town in America with this name, and as far as we can ascertain, the only one in the world. The town was started by Jack Sharp who built the first store there. The town originated as 'Haran' first recorded as a town in September 1880. The location where the original town of Haran waas is now owned by the Gipson family. The only trace of Haran is a walnut tree and a cedar tree. This area was known as Weaublea Prarie, and, according to postal records, the town was called Weaubleau city in 1876. The name was changed to Haran in 1880. Weaubleau township was formed in May of 1881.

The 4th largest impact crater in the United States is near Weaubleu and is called the "Weaubleau-Osceola structure". Round rocks, called "Missouri Rock Balls" are thought to have been created during the formation of the crater.
