The
Hot LZ Landing is one of several sculptures installed in the
Living Memorial Sculpture Garden. The garden was created by volunteers under the guidance of Ric deLugo as a memorial to war dead. Land for the garden was donated by the United States Forest Service. Funding for the sculpture was raised by donation.
From the Smithsonian description:
Outlined rendering of two military helicopters. Resting on the ground is a Huey "Dust-Off". In it are a pilot, co-pilot, door gunner and crew chief. Three soldiers are being evacuated in it. In the air above the Huey is a Cobra Gunship. A pilot and co-pilot are visible in it. The helicopters are depicted in outline form and the figures within are abstract. The metal sculpture stands atop a free-standing black concrete wall.
