This bell is called the Heritage Bell. It is honoring the local country schools which closed when the schools were consolidated into one large community school.

Beresford is a small community in south eastern South Dakota, situated on the county line between Lincoln and Union counties. This bell is physically located in Union County. Approximately 2/3 of the town is located in Union County.

The town was originally named Paris, Dakota Territory, but later named for Lord Charles Beresford and incorporated on July 12, 1884.

As you look at the bell, you are facing South and in the background is the gymnasium of Beresford High School.
